Air Quality

Air quality is an environmental concern of long standing. However, while much has been done to reduce emissions of conventional air pollutants, significant air quality problems remain, particularly in developing countries. Examples of these problems include ground level ozone, acidic deposition, hazardous toxic air constituents, visibility and health problems associated with atmospheric particulate loading, and indoor air quality. Research issues include:

  1. The relationship between plant, animal, and human activities and air quality
  2. The impacts of changes in air quality and human health, amenities, materials, the economic productivity of bioeconomic systems, and natural ecosystems
  3. Pollution control technologies and their costs
  4. The design of air quality policies that are effective, efficient, and fair
  5. Indoor air quality
  6. Odors emanating from industrial and agricultural sources.
